G.Gershwin International Competition invites talented musicians to apply for the 2023 editions, taking place in:
March and June, 2023 in New York, USA. Please read all rules and guidelines below carefully before you apply.


The 2023 G. Gershwin International Strings Competition takes place March 13-16, 2023.
The following instruments are eligible to compete:
Violin/Viola/Cello/Double Bass/Guitar/Harp

Age categories for Strings:
Concert Artists (18-38); Young Artists (13-17); Talent Show (8-12 year old).
The 2023 G. Gershwin International Competition for Young Ensembles takes place June 17-22, 2023 and will include chamber groups with an average age of 8-18 years old only.


Application fees

Competition application fee is $100 for string soloists and Duos, applying as Chamber Ensemble.
Application fee for Trios: $150; Quartets - $175; Ensembles with 5 or more participants - $250.


Application deadlines

March 1, 2023, 11:59 PM (evening) New York time - for all Strings (all 3 age categories)
Application deadline for Young Artists' Chamber Ensembles - May 15, 2023.

Application process


All applicants must submit:

  • Completed application form
  • NON-REFUNDABLE application fee ($100 USA, different fees for Chamber Ensembles of 3 or more people).
  • Online recording links - please see the instructions below.
  • Supporting materials:
    • Current biography
    • One (1) photograph (headshot) for promotional use
    • Proof of age (photocopy of birth certificate, driver's license, passport, etc.)

Preliminary Round

To be admitted to the competition's semifinal and final rounds, applicants must go through the preliminary audition by submitting a video recording.

Video Recording Pre-Selection

Please listen to the video files before submitting to guarantee a good quality of the recording.

Recording formats
A physical DVD (mailed to our address) OR any Internet video recording (such as Youtube, Vimeo, Google Drive, etc.)

Recordings can be submitted as a single link, or as several links from different concerts or events
(recordings from other competitions are welcomed and acceptable).
Recording date(s): any recordings submitted must be recorded within the last 3 years (2020-onward).

Recording round - repertoire and timing:

STRINGS
Please submit 1-5 recordings of contrasting styles.
The recordings can be solo playing (e.g. Bach's Suite), with a piano accompanist, or as soloist with orchestra.
Any time limit is acceptable.

YOUNG ARTISTS' CHAMBER ENSEMBLES
Please submit 1-5 chamber music recordings of contrasting styles.
Any time limit is acceptable.
